Green Goodness

Hello everyone, happy Monday!

I’ve been trying new, different things since I have started my journey to a healthier me. This green juice, which I like to call Green Goodness is so delicious and easy to make.

No, I have not gone on a full blown green juice diet but I have been replacing my breakfast with this juice. The benefits of juice give me a great start to my morning and it tastes great.

Yes! It actually tastes great. Here is the recipe that I used this morning…

  1. Handful of spring mix greens
  2. Handful of strawberries
  3. (1) Banana
  4. (1) Cup of Water

From my recipe you can can see that I just basically eyeball the ingredients, haha. But you can measure them out if you want. I just go with the flow when making these delicious green juices because they taste great every time I make them and that’s all that really matters, right?

You can mix and match any kind of fruits and veggies with these juices to your liking.

If you want, you can head over to Pinterest where you will find many more green recipes to try.

I like to put my juices in mason jars after I make them and pop them in the fridge until nice and chill. Here’s what it looks like

Make sure to comment below and let me know if you have ever tried one of these green juices and what are your thoughts on them.

Until next time… stay positive

My Son Turns One

Hello everyone! Happy Sunday 🙂

I’m taking a break from my Short Story Sunday series so that I can share with you all how we celebrated my sons first birthday.

As you all may or may not know I struggled with trying to figure out what to do for my son’s first birthday. I am a new Mom and my husband and I found it kinda difficult to come up with something that was appropriate for him and still allowed him to have fun.

At the very last minute, literally the day before his birthday, we decided to have a small gathering with a few friends and family. That way he can still be comfortable and have a good time.

So I immediately went into overdrive mode. I had less than 24 hours to make my son’s birthday amazing, even though he may not remember one second from this day. We decided to do an Elmo themed party since that is his favorite character at the time and I had already ordered him a birthday shirt months prior with the bright red character on the front of it.

Yesterday at his party, my son spent most of the day crying. He cried when people tried to hold him, he even cried when we sang happy birthday to him. By the end of the party he warmed up to everything that was going on and started to enjoy himself. But at the same time I wouldn’t change nothing about that day.

My son, who I had prayed years and years for was  healthy and celebrating a year of life. I was so happy that I cried tears of joy. Overall his birthday was a success and it taught me a valuable lesson: never wait until the last minute to get things done. Lol.

Until next time…stay positive

Short Story Sunday: The Channing Hall Boys: Part 2

Sammie

“I really don’t want you to go,” my girlfriend Rachel said to me. I really didn’t know what to tell her. I mean we have been talking about this since I received my acceptance letter. And to be real, I really didn’t understand why she was acting like this since she was the one who encouraged me the most to keep up my grade so that I could get into the college I wanted to go. I guess she thought that I was going to go to a college in New York. I looked at her and shook my head. She really didn’t understand.

I looked back at the crowd as my best friend’s mother finished giving her speech. I was so happy and excited that all of my best friends had graduated high school and were now headed to the same college. We had found out a week earlier that we would all be staying in the same dorm, Channing Hall together. I thought that was great because we had made a vow that we would help each other and do what it took to graduate college and make something of ourselves.

“Y’all good over here,” Dove said as him and Justin came over to where me and Rachel were standing. I have them the “I’ll tell you later look” but said out loud, “yea, we’re straight, but what’s going on with y’all.”

Dove looked at us with a grin and said, “I’m going to catch up with y’all later. Tasha invited me back to her house.” We all laughed at him. “Don’t do nothing I wouldn’t do,” Justin said as Dove walked over to Tasha and she led him to towards her house.

It was a great day. The neighborhood was out along with our friends and family to celebrate us leaving for college soon. Growing up in the projects like we did, you didn’t see that often so everybody and they Momma was proud of us.

I glanced back at Rachel and seen that she still looked mad and turned to Justin and said, “I’m going to walk her home, I’ll hit you up later.”

As we walked to house in silence, I began to think. I just had the feeling that this just wasn’t going to work. I was going away to college and she was acting like it was the end of the world. For the last couple of weeks instead of  enjoying our summer together like we planned, she was always acting mad. It’s like she didn’t want me to better myself.

She just didn’t understand that I was doing this for us, to make sure that we would be good for the rest of our lives. She was turning into somebody that I didn’t want to be around and I didn’t know if I wanted this relationship anymore.

I couldn’t even enjoy the party that was suppose to be celebrating me and my friends because we were arguing. I really didn’t have time for her negative attitude anymore.

When we reached her front door, I stopped her before we could go in. I turned to her and said, “Look, we gotta talk”. She replied, ” Yea, I really got to talk to you too.”

I stayed quiet as I waited for Racher to start. I figured if I let her tell me that this relationship was over first I wouldn’t feel too bad for breaking up with her.

She took a deep breath and then looked at me in my eyes and said, ” Um..I know I’ve been acting crazy lately Sammie. It’s because I’m scared…um…Sammie I’m…I’m pregnant.”

First Week As A Blogger…

Hello everyone and Happy Friday!

This time last week I was still thinking about starting my blog. I really wanted to start one because I love to write and have been doing so since I was a little girl. I just didn’t know if I was ready to put my work out there for any and everyone to see.

My husband encouraged me that morning as I fed our son saying, ” You can do it bae, you love to write, so why not?”  I looked at him and said, “Okay, I am going to start it today.”

Well that was a week ago, a whole week!! (Yes, I am smiling while writing this 😁).  I’m super happy that I have decided to start my blog and share my writings with you all. Since I have started this journey and have become apart of this community, I have met some pretty dope people and have read some amazing work.

I’m proud of myself for just going for it even though I was a little unsure at first. This just goes to show you that you can do anything you want to do and to not let your own self get in the way of you being great.

Thanks to all of my supporters that are supporting me on this journey, I appreciate each and every one of you. Until next time…

Short Story Sunday: The Channing Hall Boys: Part 1

Justin

Just sitting back listening to the music and enjoying the weather at my going away party. Everybody from the neighborhood, my friends and family came out to show mad love on this Saturday. My Moms had the grill going as she stood and laughed and joked with her friends. I could hear her saying, “My son made it y’all, he’s going to college!” I couldn’t help but smile as I thought about the long road to get to this day and to just think that in less then 48 hours my two best friends and I were leaving the rough streets of New York behind and traveling to Georgia to college to make something of ourselves. Myself, Sammie, and Dove all made a vow that no matter what we would graduate college and become the best men that we could. Growing up in the neighborhood that we did, you didn’t see black boys going to college too often, so you could only imagine how excited everyone was once they found out that we all had made it.

“Don’t forget about me man, I’m proud of you man!”  I turned as I seen Dove’s cousin Boo shout to him as he headed my way. “What’s up Dove, my man!”, I stated. He looked at me with a grin on his face and said ” Yoo, you see how Tasha looking over there, mannn.”  I couldn’t help but laugh. He was the one out of the group that chased the ladies the most. ” You thinking about Tasha when we are on our way to college. Bigger and better things bro.”  I told him still laughing. He shook his head and started walking towards Tasha.

My Mom started to yell for everyone to move towards the porch because she had an announcement to make. I started to walk towards the porch as my eyes connected with my mother’s. I knew she was proud of me but I also knew she was more proud of herself. And she deserved to be. After having me at a young age and working hard to provide for me, she had been told more times to count that she could not raise a boy by herself and that she was not in the position to give me a proper life. So, I knew how she felt now that she had raised me to become the man I am today and is getting ready to send me off to college, when everyone had thought that it was impossible.

I seen my other best friend Sammie, and his girlfriend Rachel sitting off to the side not looking too happy. I knew that with him going away to college it had caused some tension between them and I hoped that they would figure it out because I like them together. They had been together since freshman year of high school and I knew that they loved each other.

My mother called me up to stand next to her as she addressed everyone at my party with tears in her eyes. By the time she finished telling everyone how proud she was of me and about the hard road that lead to this very moment, there was not a dry eye around us. Even I shed a few tears.

**Thanks everyone for reading the first part of this story. Be on the lookout for Part 2 coming next Sunday. Also, remember to comment so that I can interact with you all. Until next time…

Welcome To My Blog!!

Hello everyone!! My name is LaToya but you all can call me Toya :). This is my first blog every but I have had a passion for writing since I was a little girl. Okay, so a little about me…I am 27 years young (haha), I am married to my wonderful husband of five years and we have a handsome little boy who is turning one at the end of the month. I can not believe that we are about to have a one year old. You would think that I have everything planned for his birthday already, right? But…I don’t, I cant decide what will be perfect enough for our little guy, but more about that later. So yea, as I was saying, I love to write, read, and take pictures. Today I went to the library (I know the library!) and got a few books and have started reading a book by the name of “The Neighbor” by Lisa Gardner. So far so good. I will definitely keep you guys updated with that. With this blog I want to share my life with you guys ( such as my family, being a first time Mom, being young and married, etc) and the little successes and fails that come with my life. I hope to keep you guys entertained enough to keep coming back and reading more. Please comment and like so that I can interact with you guys. I look forward to seeing you in my next post 🙂
