Sunday Family Funday

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday 🙂

I hope that you all are having a wonderful day on this beautiful Sunday.

Before I became a mother, I would spend my Sunday’s getting ready for the work week. Now as a mother, we use Sunday’s as family days. We usually do something fun, whether we spend it at home or go out as a family.

Today we decided to use this Sunday to take our son to the park and then out for ice cream. Days like this just makes my heart smile because I really enjoying watching my son have such a fun time playing.

I encourage everyone  to take one day out of the week to have family time. Not only is it a great way to spend time with each other but it also creates lasting memories. And gives us a time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the week and to just enjoying the time with the ones you love most.

Not a parent? No problem! Take a day to spend with your parents and/or your siblings. Do something that will rejuvenate you for the rest of the busy work week.

Parent or not, just take time to do something with the people you care about that makes you feel good and warms your heart. Life is too short to not take time out of our busy lives to spend time with loved ones. Make sure to comment below and let me know how you like to spend family days!

Until next time…stay positive!

Study Tips for Online Students

Hello Everyone, Happy Thursday 😊

I hope that you all have been having a great week so far and are accomplishing the goals that you set out for this week.

This is the season of going back to school. While I scroll down my Facebook timeline, I see many parents posting there children’s first day of school pictures. And that makes me smile. All of th children look amazing with there nice school clothes on, with a bright smile plastered on there faces. There excitement instantly warms my heart.

I don’t have a school age child yet, AyeJay is only one. I know the time will come soon for him to become a big boy and head to school. I’m sure that I will be that parent that tries to hold back tears as I wave bye.

Even thought I have some years before it’s my son’s turn to head to school, I, on the other hand, will have my first day back at online school in less then a week. I have been a online student for quite sometime now and I love it! I believe that this form of school just works best for me and my family at the time.

With online school you do have to have a lot of self discipline if you want to be successful. There is no one there reminding you to study for a test or to even get started on an assignment. It’s all up to you. I have came up with a few study tips that has helped me to become an successful as a online student.

Study Tips :

  1. Dedicated Study Space – I recommend finding a place where you can go and study without any distractions. This will allow you to focus at the task as hand without any interruptions. Also, I would recommend leaving your cell phone out of this space so that you won’t be tempted to scroll on Facebook. (Haha)
  2. Build A Study Plan- A study plan is critical in online learning. This will help you to stay on track with what needs to be done. A study plan can include a calendar, a to-do-list, time limitations, etc.
  3. Stay On Schedule- I know that with online school it can be very easy to not stay on schedule and procrastinate on work. That’s why it is very important to stay on a schedule when it come to studying and completing assignments.
  4. Stay Motivated- I would say that the best way to stay motivated is to get engaged in your experience as an online student. This can mean rewarding yourself for a job well done or simply decorating your study space.

Well everyone, these are just a few tips to help you to become a successful online student. Please comment below and let me know of some of your study tips, even if you’re not a online student, I still want to hear from you guys.

Until next time…stay positive!

Short Story Sunday-The Channing Hall Boys:Part 3

Dove

Putting back on my clothes,I looked back at Tasha’s naked body laying in bed sound asleep. I couldn’t help but smile to myself. I was known amongst my two best friends as the ladies man. All the girls from around the way wanted to get with me and I couldn’t blame them. Standing 6 feet tall, dark complexion, muscles and dread, ask any girl and I bet she would tell you that I was the man. I could wake Tashe up and let her know that I was leaving but nope I was good on all that.

I left her house and walked to my house where I lived with my aunt. Today had been a great day. I had celebrated the last days of being in the hood with my family before it was time for me to head off to college with my two best friends. I’m not going to lie, I thought that I wasn’t going to graduate from high school. But Sammie and Justin helped me to get my grades together to make sure that I was going to college with them.

I lived in the projects with my Aunt Jewel who I loved dearly. She had took me in when both of my parents decided that drugs and alcohol was way more important them being a parent to me. When I walked in the house I noticed that Aunt Jewel was on the couch as th nightly news watched her sleep under her blanket. I walked to my room and pulled my phone out of my pocket and laid across the bed. I had ten missed calls and five text message from Tasha. I looked at them and shook my head and pulled up my Facebook app instead of reading one text from her.

I mean Tasha was cool and all but I don’t know why she was blowing my phone up. I wasn’t looking for a relationship and what had took place at her house a couple of hours ago was just that, nothing more.

On Facebook, I noticed that I had a message from this other cutie, Maria, that I definitely wanted to get up with before I left for school. She was in my inbox telling me how proud she was of me and that she wanted me to come over so she can show me exactly how proud she was. Without a thought, I messaged her back and told her I was on my way. I mean, she was fine and I really want to see how proud she was of me. I laughed to myself as I got my things together and walked to her house.

When I arrived she was there standing, waiting, in barely nothing. I reached in my pocket to pull out a condom. She took it out my hand and said, “Ohh baby, you don’t need that. I’m on the pill.”

I dropped the condom on the floor and proceeded to let Maria congratulate me on all my accomplishments.

Fake friends

Hello everyone, I hope that you all are having a good day/night, depending on when you are reading this…

I know that we all have a “friend” that acts as if they are your best friend but in reality they are not. You know the kind that is always by your side acting as if they are cheering you on, but they are really praying on your down fall.

Yea that’s the type that we all need to stay far..far.. away from.

When I was in middle school I had one of those friends. She would alway have something negative to say about anything and everything that I was doing. But at the same time she would make me feel as if she was a true friend, even though she would talk bad about me behind my back. Yea, I know it can be confusing because I sure was confused too.

Now as an adult, I have came across people that do the same thing. But since I know better, I do better. I refuse to have those kinds of people around me. I have also realized that sometimes you can generally like this type person but deep down inside you know that you should stay away from them. I mean is it possible that there can be bad qualities to a good person? Or that they really don’t realize that they are hurting you?

Well, we don’t need that type of negativity in our lives so beware of the fake friends. Comment below and let me know if you ever experienced a “friend” being fake.

Until next time…stay positive!

Trying New Things!

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday 😊

I hope you all are making your way through this week with a positive mindset and are taking the necessary steps to reach the goals you have set for your self.

This week I have done just that. I want to push myself to try something new each week. You know like get out of my comfort zone and do something or go somewhere that I wouldn’t regularly go. I’m getting older not younger and when I look back on my life I want to say that it was filled with adventure. I want to try it all even it I don’t like it, at least I can say that I tried, right?

I am the kind of person that loves to put everyone before myself. I guess that just comes with being a wife and a mother. But believe me when I say, I love it, I really don’t mind at all. I just have to start doing things for me. So, this week I am taking a break from wife and mommy mode and I am going to have a girls day with a few friends. I am excited about spending time with my friends and I know that I will have to stop myself from checking in with my family while I’m out but it’s going to be fun.

Also, I want to try a new hair color. Something that I wouldn’t imagine on myself. I change the style of my hair often, but never the color. I’m looking forward to that as well.

I think that we all need to try different things from time to time. I believe that it gives our lives a little spice 🙂. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you guys think about stepping out of your comfort zone.

Until next time…stay positive

Short Story Sunday: The Channing Hall Boys: Part 2

Sammie

“I really don’t want you to go,” my girlfriend Rachel said to me. I really didn’t know what to tell her. I mean we have been talking about this since I received my acceptance letter. And to be real, I really didn’t understand why she was acting like this since she was the one who encouraged me the most to keep up my grade so that I could get into the college I wanted to go. I guess she thought that I was going to go to a college in New York. I looked at her and shook my head. She really didn’t understand.

I looked back at the crowd as my best friend’s mother finished giving her speech. I was so happy and excited that all of my best friends had graduated high school and were now headed to the same college. We had found out a week earlier that we would all be staying in the same dorm, Channing Hall together. I thought that was great because we had made a vow that we would help each other and do what it took to graduate college and make something of ourselves.

“Y’all good over here,” Dove said as him and Justin came over to where me and Rachel were standing. I have them the “I’ll tell you later look” but said out loud, “yea, we’re straight, but what’s going on with y’all.”

Dove looked at us with a grin and said, “I’m going to catch up with y’all later. Tasha invited me back to her house.” We all laughed at him. “Don’t do nothing I wouldn’t do,” Justin said as Dove walked over to Tasha and she led him to towards her house.

It was a great day. The neighborhood was out along with our friends and family to celebrate us leaving for college soon. Growing up in the projects like we did, you didn’t see that often so everybody and they Momma was proud of us.

I glanced back at Rachel and seen that she still looked mad and turned to Justin and said, “I’m going to walk her home, I’ll hit you up later.”

As we walked to house in silence, I began to think. I just had the feeling that this just wasn’t going to work. I was going away to college and she was acting like it was the end of the world. For the last couple of weeks instead of  enjoying our summer together like we planned, she was always acting mad. It’s like she didn’t want me to better myself.

She just didn’t understand that I was doing this for us, to make sure that we would be good for the rest of our lives. She was turning into somebody that I didn’t want to be around and I didn’t know if I wanted this relationship anymore.

I couldn’t even enjoy the party that was suppose to be celebrating me and my friends because we were arguing. I really didn’t have time for her negative attitude anymore.

When we reached her front door, I stopped her before we could go in. I turned to her and said, “Look, we gotta talk”. She replied, ” Yea, I really got to talk to you too.”

I stayed quiet as I waited for Racher to start. I figured if I let her tell me that this relationship was over first I wouldn’t feel too bad for breaking up with her.

She took a deep breath and then looked at me in my eyes and said, ” Um..I know I’ve been acting crazy lately Sammie. It’s because I’m scared…um…Sammie I’m…I’m pregnant.”

First Week As A Blogger…

Hello everyone and Happy Friday!

This time last week I was still thinking about starting my blog. I really wanted to start one because I love to write and have been doing so since I was a little girl. I just didn’t know if I was ready to put my work out there for any and everyone to see.

My husband encouraged me that morning as I fed our son saying, ” You can do it bae, you love to write, so why not?”  I looked at him and said, “Okay, I am going to start it today.”

Well that was a week ago, a whole week!! (Yes, I am smiling while writing this 😁).  I’m super happy that I have decided to start my blog and share my writings with you all. Since I have started this journey and have become apart of this community, I have met some pretty dope people and have read some amazing work.

I’m proud of myself for just going for it even though I was a little unsure at first. This just goes to show you that you can do anything you want to do and to not let your own self get in the way of you being great.

Thanks to all of my supporters that are supporting me on this journey, I appreciate each and every one of you. Until next time…

Short Story Sunday: The Channing Hall Boys: Part 1

Justin

Just sitting back listening to the music and enjoying the weather at my going away party. Everybody from the neighborhood, my friends and family came out to show mad love on this Saturday. My Moms had the grill going as she stood and laughed and joked with her friends. I could hear her saying, “My son made it y’all, he’s going to college!” I couldn’t help but smile as I thought about the long road to get to this day and to just think that in less then 48 hours my two best friends and I were leaving the rough streets of New York behind and traveling to Georgia to college to make something of ourselves. Myself, Sammie, and Dove all made a vow that no matter what we would graduate college and become the best men that we could. Growing up in the neighborhood that we did, you didn’t see black boys going to college too often, so you could only imagine how excited everyone was once they found out that we all had made it.

“Don’t forget about me man, I’m proud of you man!”  I turned as I seen Dove’s cousin Boo shout to him as he headed my way. “What’s up Dove, my man!”, I stated. He looked at me with a grin on his face and said ” Yoo, you see how Tasha looking over there, mannn.”  I couldn’t help but laugh. He was the one out of the group that chased the ladies the most. ” You thinking about Tasha when we are on our way to college. Bigger and better things bro.”  I told him still laughing. He shook his head and started walking towards Tasha.

My Mom started to yell for everyone to move towards the porch because she had an announcement to make. I started to walk towards the porch as my eyes connected with my mother’s. I knew she was proud of me but I also knew she was more proud of herself. And she deserved to be. After having me at a young age and working hard to provide for me, she had been told more times to count that she could not raise a boy by herself and that she was not in the position to give me a proper life. So, I knew how she felt now that she had raised me to become the man I am today and is getting ready to send me off to college, when everyone had thought that it was impossible.

I seen my other best friend Sammie, and his girlfriend Rachel sitting off to the side not looking too happy. I knew that with him going away to college it had caused some tension between them and I hoped that they would figure it out because I like them together. They had been together since freshman year of high school and I knew that they loved each other.

My mother called me up to stand next to her as she addressed everyone at my party with tears in her eyes. By the time she finished telling everyone how proud she was of me and about the hard road that lead to this very moment, there was not a dry eye around us. Even I shed a few tears.

**Thanks everyone for reading the first part of this story. Be on the lookout for Part 2 coming next Sunday. Also, remember to comment so that I can interact with you all. Until next time…
